Started in 2001 Neighbors
United for Justice and Peace (NUJP) is (primarily) made up of neighbors
from Mount Rainier, Brentwood, Hyattsville and Riverdale Maryland (and others from
the Metro DC area) who used to gather monthly
to discuss justice and peace issues that affect us locally, nationally and
throughout the world.
If you wish to receive regular e-mails about upcoming
NUJP activities and monthly meetings and want to be added to
our e-mail "listserv", please enter your e-mail address below and click on
the "Yahoo Groups Join Now" link! For more information please contact
the
NUJP
listserv coordinator .
The primary goals and work of NUJP:
-
Educate people about the need for a system based
on justice, peace, kindness, and full rights for all the world's
peoples, and for the earth itself, through forums on different aspects
of this need (i.e., countering militarism, alternative economic visions,
etc.);
-
Participate in larger movements against war and
corporate domination;
-
Organize local initiatives that further NUJP's
goals, such as a Mount Rainier City Council resolution against the Iraq war, local
demonstrations and vigils, with an emphasis on including parents and
young children;
-
Promote ways of "practicing what we preach,"
including a barter/local currency initiative, alternative energy use,
alternative food production;
-
Support community-building initiatives that
encourage unity in diversity, justice and peace among our neighbors; and
-
Host monthly Community Forums and Meetings Community forums, topical in nature, will take
place on the second friday of the month (unless otherwise scheduled),
from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Please note: The location and any changes to day
